About Coach Rex & the gym
You should be able to check who is teaching you. Rex Pena has been coaching since 2008. Three black belts: first-generation Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Kenpo and Tang Soo Do. He turned pro in MMA at forty-two, and six fighters he coached went on to The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC, Tony Ferguson among them.
This shelf covers the record, the name, the history of the company, and the question people ask most carefully, which is why there is no room to walk into right now. The plain version: the 817 E Thompson Blvd gym has closed and a new space is being built. Until it opens, everything is private, one on one, and mobile across the county. That is not a step down. It is the coaching he wanted to be doing anyway while the walls go up.
If you want to verify any of it, read the answer on how to check, because a coach who will not tell you where to look is a coach to walk away from. Rex still trains, still competes, still holds the pads himself instead of handing you off to somebody else. Right now the gym is a truck, a set of mats and whatever space you have. The coaching is the same coaching it was on Thompson Boulevard.
