Getting started

Where do sessions happen?

Wherever you are. Your garage, your backyard, your living room, a park or a community room, anywhere in Ventura County. Rex brings the mats.

Wherever you are. The gym at 817 E Thompson Blvd has closed and a new space is being built, which is why there is no gym right now. Until it opens, every session is private and mobile. I come to you, anywhere in the county. See whether I can travel to your town.

People train in a garage with the door open, on the grass out back, in the living room with the coffee table shoved aside, at a park, in an apartment complex gym, in a church hall, on the sand. A flat patch about the size of a parking space is enough to start with, and you do not need to own mats or gloves. Those ride in the truck.

A garage is the most popular answer by a long way. Door up for air, car on the driveway, mats down on the concrete. Training in a garage covers the ceiling height question and what to move first.

Offices and building gyms work too. I have coached people on a patch of carpet between meetings and in apartment fitness rooms, which is worth knowing if home is not practical. See training at your office or your gym.

Noise is what people worry about most, especially in apartments and townhouses. Pad work is louder than grappling, and most of it can come off the shared wall and onto the mats. Whether this bothers your neighbors is worth reading before you book.

If you want a public park or a shared room, check the local rules and get permission first. Each city page lists the spots people around here actually use. Find your city.

Weather rarely cancels anything. Ventura County does not throw much at you, and when it does there is usually a garage, a carport or a covered walkway within reach. I will call it with you the day before rather than leaving you guessing at five in the morning.

Tell me what you have when you message me. A yard, a garage, a spare room, nothing at all. I have worked with all of it.
