Self-defense & MMA in Oxnard
Fifteen minutes down the 101. Private MMA, boxing and self-defense sessions anywhere in Oxnard, from El Rio to the harbor.
Oxnard is the biggest city in the county, and it has a real boxing and fight culture. Plenty of people here want to learn, and the problem is usually time: shift work, long commutes, kids to pick up.
Private sessions fix that. Rex comes to you on your schedule, early or late, and you train in your own garage or at the beach instead of fitting your life around a class timetable.
Oxnard is spread wide, and every part of it trains differently. RiverPark has newer houses with two-car garages and community rooms you can book. Down in Silver Strand and Hollywood Beach the places are smaller, so people work on the sand or the lawns by Channel Islands Harbor. El Rio has yards, driveways and carports, which is all a session needs.
The drive from Ventura is about fifteen minutes on the 101, so this is the one city outside Ventura that Rex can reach at almost any hour. That matters here. Rose Avenue and Oxnard Boulevard clog up at shift change, and if the class started at six you were never going to make it. A private session starts when you get home.
The boxing in this town is real, and it shows up in the first ten minutes. A lot of Rex's Oxnard clients already have hands. What they are missing is the clinch, the takedown, and what to do when it hits the floor. That is the part he builds, without wrecking what you already do well.
Who Rex trains in Oxnard
Shift workers who can't make a 6 pm class, boxers who want to add grappling, and families in El Rio and Silver Strand who want kids' sessions at home.
Why people in Oxnard don't start, and how Rex fixes it
Three reasons people stall
-
Hands first, then the rest
Plenty of people here can already punch. Rex coaches every rep himself, cleans up the stance, then adds the clinch, the takedown and the ground. If you have never trained, you start at stance and breathing instead. Nobody spars until they ask to.

Fifteen minutes down the 101
Oxnard is the easiest city to schedule after Ventura, early morning or late evening. Your garage in RiverPark, a yard in El Rio, the lawns at Channel Islands Harbor, the sand at Oxnard State Beach Park by Mandalay.

A boxing town knows the difference
Three black belts, coaching since 2008, a pro debut at 42, and six fighters from his room who reached The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC, Tony Ferguson included. In Oxnard, that record gets checked, and it holds up.
Questions
Training in Oxnard
Can we train early in the morning or late at night?
Yes. Mornings and evenings are the most common times in Oxnard because of shift work. Tell Rex your schedule and he'll build around it.
I already box. What can you actually add?
The parts that end fights. Clinch work, takedown defense, getting back to your feet, and enough no-gi jiu-jitsu to be safe on the ground. Rex still holds the pads himself, so your hands keep getting coached while the rest gets built.
Can we train at the harbor or the beach?
Yes. The lawns around Channel Islands Harbor and the grass at Oxnard State Beach Park by Mandalay both work well. Sand adds conditioning you cannot fake. Rex brings mats for ground work and keeps the session out of everybody's way.
