Self-defense & MMA in Camarillo
Private self-defense and MMA coaching in Camarillo and Somis. One on one, at your house or a park, about twenty minutes from Ventura.
Camarillo is a quiet, family town, and most people who ask Rex about training here aren't looking to fight. They want to know what to do if something happens, get in real shape, or give a kid some confidence.
That's exactly what one-on-one coaching is for. No intimidating fight gym, no one watching: just you, Rex, and a patch of grass or a garage.
The city splits into a few different lives. Mission Oaks and Camarillo Springs are full of families with two-car garages and a square of lawn out back. Spanish Hills and Las Posas Estates have space to spare. Leisure Village is a different ask again: older bodies, careful joints, and a community room that works fine for footwork, balance and learning to get back up off the floor safely.
It is about twenty minutes down the 101 from Ventura, and the drive is easy outside the afternoon crawl near Las Posas. Rex can run a mid-morning session here and still be back in town for an evening one, which is why Camarillo gets the best daytime slots in the county. Parents book while the kids are at school and are done before pickup.
Somis is ranch country and it brings its own kind of space: a barn, a flat patch of dirt, a garage with the tractor pushed over. All of that works. A session needs about a car length of clear floor, somewhere to lay the mats, and somebody willing to be bad at something for an hour.

What actually stops people here
-
Nobody is watching you learn
Most people in Camarillo have never thrown a punch and have no interest in an audience while they figure it out. One on one, that problem is gone. You get corrected as you go, at whatever pace your body allows, and nobody spars until they ask to.

Twenty minutes down the 101
Rex drives to Mission Oaks, Spanish Hills, Leisure Village or out to Somis. A garage, a backyard, the grass at Camarillo Grove Park, Mission Oaks Community Park, or your HOA room if the board is fine with it. Daytime slots are easiest here.

A record, not a sales pitch
Three black belts, coaching since 2008, a pro debut at 42, and six fighters who reached The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC. You are not handing your kid, or your Saturday morning, to somebody with a rented storefront and a printed certificate.
Questions
Training in Camarillo
I'm over 40 and out of shape. Is that a problem?
No. Rex turned pro in MMA at 42. Sessions start where you are, and nobody spars until they're ready and want to.
Can Rex train my kid and me in the same session?
Yes, and it works better than people expect. Kids pay attention when a parent is doing the same drill badly. Rex splits the hour, gives each of you your own thing to work on, and finishes with something you can practise together in the driveway during the week.
Our HOA has a clubhouse room. Can we use that?
If your HOA allows it, yes. A clubhouse or community center room is plenty of space. Rex brings mats and pads, works quiet, and leaves it how he found it. Clear it with your board first so nobody gets a letter.
