Self-defense & MMA in Simi Valley

Private self-defense, boxing and MMA sessions in Simi Valley and Wood Ranch with Coach Rex. Book a few sessions together to make the trip count.

Simi Valley is the far corner of the county from Ventura, so Rex schedules Simi sessions in blocks, back to back on the same day. That makes the drive work, and it gives you a steady weekly slot.

It's a good fit for families and neighbors who want to train together: two or three people, one session, one garage.

It is about forty five minutes on the 118, and longer when the 23 is having a bad afternoon. There is no way to pretend that away, so nobody tries. Set days, back-to-back bookings, and a slot you can count on every week. Ask which day he is out this way and take the time that fits your rotation.

The housing helps. Wood Ranch and Big Sky are newer, with three-car garages and flat, private yards. Older Simi, down toward Santa Susana and the Los Angeles Avenue corridor, has generous driveways and carports instead. Rancho Simi Community Park has grass when you want to be outside, and Corriganville has flat meadow areas away from the trail traffic.

This is also the easiest city in the county for small groups. Two neighbors, a couple, a parent and a teenager. One garage, one session, and everybody still gets corrected because three people is not a class. First responders book here for practical self-defense that works in a uniform, and teenagers book because they want to learn to box properly instead of from a phone.

Why people in Simi Valley don't start, and how Rex fixes it

Three barriers, one long drive

  1. 01 · You don't know how Solved

Three people is not a class

Whether it is just you or you and a neighbor, every rep still gets watched and corrected. Beginners start at stance and breathing. Nobody spars until they ask to, and nobody gets left drilling in a corner while the coach looks elsewhere.

  2. 02 · You don't know where Solved

    Set days, standing slots

Forty five minutes on the 118, so Simi sessions get booked back to back on one day. Your garage in Wood Ranch or Big Sky, a driveway down in Santa Susana, or the grass at Rancho Simi Community Park and Corriganville.

  3. 03 · You can't tell who's real Solved

Nobody drives this far for a fitness class

Three black belts, coaching since 2008, a pro debut at 42, and six fighters who reached The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC. He makes this trip to coach, and the record is there to check before you book.

Questions

Training in Simi Valley

Is Simi Valley too far?

No, but sessions here are grouped on set days. Message Rex and he'll tell you which days he's in Simi, and you can pick a regular slot.

Can two or three of us split a session?

Yes, and Simi runs on it. Two neighbors, a couple, a parent and a kid. Rex still coaches every rep, because three people is not a class. Tell him how many you are and how much experience is in the group when you message.

I work shifts as a first responder. Will that work?

It has to, or none of this does. Rex sets his Simi days in advance, so pick the one that lands on your rotation and hold that slot. If a shift eats it, message him and he will sort out the next trip out.
