Self-defense & MMA in Moorpark
Private MMA, no-gi jiu-jitsu and self-defense in Moorpark. One on one, at your home or a park, with Coach Rex.
Moorpark is a young, fast-growing city full of families and college students. It's also between everything: too far from Ventura for a weeknight class, and too far from the Valley too.
One-on-one sessions at home skip the commute. Kids train after school in the backyard, and college students get a coach who can build them up for their first amateur fight.
The housing here is newer than most of the county and it shows. Mountain Meadows and Campus Park are tracts of two-storey houses with real garages and tidy backyards. Peach Hill is much the same. Move one car onto the driveway and you have better training space than a lot of actual gyms, with a door you can close.
Getting here from Ventura takes about thirty five minutes on the 118 through Somis, so Rex groups Moorpark sessions on set days and gives people a standing weekly slot. That is better for you anyway. A fixed time you keep beats a flexible one you talk yourself out of on a Tuesday night.
Two groups book most of the hours. Families around Mountain Meadows and Campus Park want their kids training close to home, after school and before homework. And students at Moorpark College want to compete, which means a real camp built around a class timetable: pad work, rounds, a game plan, and somebody in the corner on the night who has done it before.
Who Rex trains in Moorpark
Kids and teens, Moorpark College students who want to compete, and busy parents who want a workout that also teaches them something.
Why people in Moorpark don't start, and how Rex fixes it
Three barriers, one coach
-
Nothing gets missed in a group of one
Beginners build stance, balance and their first submissions. Anybody chasing a fight gets a real camp instead of a class they share with twenty people: pads, rounds, a game plan and a corner on the night.
-
Thirty five minutes over the 118
Moorpark sessions get grouped on set days, so you take a standing weekly slot and keep it. Train in the garage in Mountain Meadows, the backyard in Campus Park, or on the grass at Arroyo Vista Community Park.

He has walked this road before
Rex has taken people from a first session to a first fight, and six of his fighters went on to The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC. Three black belts, coaching since 2008, and a pro debut of his own at 42.
Questions
Training in Moorpark
I want to compete. Can private sessions get me there?
Yes. Rex has taken fighters from first class to first fight, and six of them reached The Ultimate Fighter and the UFC. Fight camp, game-planning and cornering are all part of it.
Is a two-car garage really enough room?
Yes. Move one car onto the driveway and you have more than enough. Rex brings mats, pads and gloves. Almost everything you learn in the first few months happens inside a space about the size of a parking spot.
Can I get a regular weekly time in Moorpark?
That is how Rex prefers to run it here. Moorpark sessions get grouped on set days so the trip over the 118 is worth making. Ask him which days he is out this way and take a standing slot on one of them.
