Should I eat before a session?

Yes, but not much and not right before. Something light an hour or two out. Training hungry goes badly, training full goes worse.

Something small, an hour or two out. Not a full plate, not nothing at all.

Training on empty is how you end up shaky and useless forty minutes in, and I would rather not spend your hour waiting for you to come back from that. Training straight after a big meal is its own punishment, especially once you are upside down.

What works for most people: a banana, toast, a bit of rice, some eggs, whatever sits well with you. You know your own stomach better than I do.

Water matters more than food does on the day. Eat properly afterwards instead, because that is where the recovery and most of the soreness get decided.

If you are on a medical diet or managing blood sugar, follow your doctor, not me.
